Award guidelines

Nature of the Award

  • The James Mitchell award recipient shall participate in an award ceremony on 7 September 2023 at ETH Zurich, as part of the "D-HEST Research Day".
  • During the ceremony, the award recipient is expected to give a 15 minute presentation on her/his latest research in the field of aging, nutrition, metabolism, or other related areas of health sciences.
  • The award recipient will be awarded a certificate and CHF 2’000 to support travel related expenses to a national or international scientific conference of their choice.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must hold a PhD degree at the time of the application, and serve in a non-permanent position as a postdoctoral researcher fellow, or a similiar position.
  • The applicant is currently conducting research in an accredited Swiss academic research institute in a scientific field that is related to aging research, nutrition, metabolism, or other associated areas of health sciences.
  • The applicant has made a substantial contribution to advancing a collaborative project in one of these research areas, which has culminated in a scientific publication or similar measure.
     

Submission

  • To apply for this award, applicants should submit the following:
    • a cover letter (A4 standard, up to one page) explaining the collaborative nature of their scientific project/experience.
    • a two-page CV (A4 standard, including bibliography of nominee's most relevant publications). If available, please include a link to any lecture or presentation videos.
    • a title and abstract (up to 150 words) of the presentation the nominee would give in the event selected.
  • Fully completed applications must be received by 31 July 2023, 5:00pm CET. The selected winner is expected to be announced around 15 August 2023.

Selection

The awardee is selected by a committee comprised of ETH Zurich faculty and scientists appointed by the Department of Health Sciences and Technology, ETH Zurich. The primary selection criteria include the excellence of the research, collaborative nature of the work, and relevance for human health: aspects of science embodied by the contributions of the late Professor Jay Mitchell.
