Award guidelines and applications
Nature of the Award
- The recipient of the James Mitchell Award shall attend the award ceremony in person on Monday, 3 February 2025, at ETH Zurich, as part of the "HEST Translational Research Day".
- During the ceremony, the award recipient will give a 15-minute presentation on their research.
- The award recipient will receive a certificate and prize money of CHF 2’000 to spend as they choose.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must hold a PhD degree at the time of the application and serve in a non-permanent position as a postdoctoral fellow, senior scientist, researcher at a start-up company or a similar position.
- The applicant is currently conducting, or has conducted, research in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich. Alternatively, they have fostered a successful collaboration with D-HEST members on any health sciences research area pursued within the department.
- The applicant has made a substantial contribution to advancing a collaborative project relevant to health sciences and technology, which has culminated in a scientific publication, a successful spin-off or the development of a unique medical technology.
Submission
- To apply for this award, applicants should submit the following:
- a cover letter (A4 standard, up to one page) explaining the collaborative nature of their scientific project/experience.
- a two-page CV (A4 standard, including bibliography of nominee's most relevant publications). If available, please include a link to any lecture or presentation videos.
- a title and abstract (up to 150 words) of the presentation the nominee would give at the award ceremony in the event selected.
- Fully completed applications must be received by 15 November 2024, 5:00 pm CET. The selected winner is expected to be announced around 20 December 2024.
- Complete award applications should be submitted as a single pdf file attachment emailed to joanne.lim@hest.ethz.ch.
Selection
The awardee is selected by a committee comprised of ETH Zurich faculty and scientists appointed by the Department of Health Sciences and Technology, ETH Zurich. The primary selection criteria include the excellence of the research, collaborative nature of the work, and relevance for human health: aspects of science embodied by the contributions of the late Professor James Mitchell.
