After the Examination (Final Steps)

Final steps

Detailed information on the final steps is available on the student portal.

1. After the Examination:

  • In case of a positive oral examination result:
Your thesis will normally be handed in to the Department Conference following the examination.
The dates of the D-HEST conferences are published in the intranet section.
  • In case of a negative oral examination result:
The chairman of the examination committee will inform you in writing of what you have to do next and about the deadlines that have to be met.

A doctoral examination can be repeated once within 6 months.

2. After the Department Conference/Confirmation of Graduation:

After approval of your thesis by the Department Conference, Academic Services will issue and send you the provisional confirmation of your graduation. You will be exmatriculated on the date of the confirmation letter.

Important: Once the thesis has been approved by the Department Conference, the title and content may no longer be changed!

3. Handing in the Deposit Copies:

The deposit copies of your thesis must be handed in to Academic Services within 3 months after the Department Conference.

4. Confirmation of Doctor Title/ Doctoral Awards Ceremony:

After handing in the deposit copies, Academic Services will issue and send you the confirmation that you can use your doctoral title now.

Academic Services will also contact you with information on the doctoral awards ceremony and the presentation of the doctoral degree certificate.
