Master's graduation celebration Agricultural Sciences and Food Science

With the Master's ceremony on April 19, 2024, a total of 109 graduates of ETH Zurich's Agricultural Sciences and Food Science study programs celebrated their successful graduation.

In keeping with tradition, this year's Master's celebration began with a poster exhibition featuring posters on all the work in the two degree programs. This was accompanied by coffee and cake, and the graduates had the opportunity to present their work to their relatives and friends.

The subsequent celebration took place in the Audimax, which was full as usual. The Master's ceremony was opened by Prof. Michael Siegrist, Director of Studies in Food Science. In the keynote address that followed, Ariane Bulant, who completed her Master's degree in Food Science in 2017, gave the graduates some thoughts to take with them and advised them to activate their energy and take their first step into professional life, however small, without hesitation. The beer served at the apero came from her own small brewery.

After the keynote speech, a total of seven prize winners received their awards:

  • Willi Studer Award for the best graduates in 2022:
    • Agricultural Sciences: Fiona Stewart-Smith
    • Food Science: Jiatong Nie
  • ETH medal for an outstanding master's thesis::
    • Agricultural Sciences: Fiona Stewart-Smith
    • Food Science: Natalie Kallay
  • Hochdorf Prize for a master's thesis in Food Science: Katrin Müller
  • SGLWT Prize for a master's thesis in Food Science, focus on Food Technology: Thomas Mair
  • Wilhelm Schaumann Prize for a master's thesis in Agricultural Sciences: Pascal Urscheler
  • Hans Vontobel Prize for an outstanding doctoral thesis: Gregor Perich

As always, the highlight of the ceremony was the congratulatory sequence in which the graduates were honored (55 in Agricultural Sciences and 54 in Food Science).

Natalie Kallay, a graduate in Food Science, and Ramon Winterberg, a graduate in Agricultural Sciences, hosted the ceremony in a highly professional and entertaining manner. And the Lucerne duo "RUN" provided the musical accompaniment with their unmistakable style, earning much applause. The band even got the whole audience in the Audimax to sing along to their last song.
