The 5th Research Day of the Department of Health Sciences and Technology was held on Tuesday, 4 December 2018. With approx. 350 participants it was again a successful and very special event.
Speed presentations are the heart of the Research Day. This year 77 doctoral students presented their projects in 3 minute presentations to the audience. One to three students from each group took this opportunity to provide an interesting overview of the research going on in the department.
Special guest this year was Prof. Antonio Togni, Vice Rector for Doctoral Studies. Keynotes were given by Prof. Robert Riener and Dr. Jaime Duarte, CEO and co-founder of MyoSwiss. MySwiss is a young company dedicated to creating devices to assist people with mobility impairments. Roger Stadler, CEO of icotec AG, unfortunately could not attend the Research Day, but Prof. Stephen Ferguson presented the story of icotec AG on his behalf.
In the afternoon, the last session of speed presentations was followed by a panel discussion: "Start Up, Spin Off, Break Out". Moderated by Prof. Stephen Ferguson, participants were Dr. Jaime Duarte, and ETH Profs. Simone Schürle, Christian Wolfrum und Christophe Lacroix. They all shared their views and experiences with founding companies with the audience.
The closing apéro riche offered the opportunity for networking and discussion.
