ETH Board awards Sibylle Grad the title "Professor" at D-HEST
05 Dec 2024 - At its meeting of 5 December 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board awarded Sibylle Grad the title "Adjunct Professor" at D-HEST.
Dr Sibylle Grad is currently Private Lecturer at ETH Zurich at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Sibylle Grad is an internationally regarded scientist in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Her innovative research, which is supported by a wide range of funding, focuses on improving the repair and regeneration of the musculoskeletal system, with a focus on joint cartilage and intervertebral discs. She is Senior Scientist and Focus Area Leader Disc/Cartilage Biology as well as Deputy Head of the Regenerative Orthopaedics Programme at the AO Research Institute Davos."

Ori Bar-Nur promoted to Associate Professor
25 September 2024 - At its meeting of 18 and 19 September 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board promoted Ori Bar-Nur to Associate Professor.
Professor Ori Bar-Nur is Tenure Track Assistant Professor at ETH Zurich and has been promoted to Associate Professor of Regenerative and Muscle Biology in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Ori Bar-Nur’s research has a particular focus on the development of cell-based and gene-based approaches to treat the degenerative loss of muscle mass. His discovery that fibroblasts in genuine muscle stem cells can be reprogrammed has a wide range of potential practical applications, right up to generating muscle stem cell lines from domesticated animals for the production of sustainable, more environmentally friendly foods. Ori Bar-Nur has already registered a patent in connection with this discovery. He is an active member of the scientific community and has headed the Institute of Human Movement Sciences and Sport at ETH Zurich since earlier this year."

ETH Board appoints Dual Professorships at D-HEST: Soeren Lienkamp und Kerstin Noëlle Vokinger
25 September 2024 - At its meeting of 18 and 19 September 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board appointed two Dual Professorships at D-HEST.
Professor Soeren Lienkamp is Assistant Professor at the University of Zurich and has been appointed as Associate Professor of Anatomy in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Soeren Lienkamp’s research on molecular and structural processes during the development of the kidneys has led to a better understanding of congenital renal malformations and various forms of polycystic kidney disease. In future, his work will also focus on the understanding and control of cellular identity and developing models for rare syndromal diseases. His research has won multiple awards, including an ERC Starting Grant in 2020. The newly created joint professorship focuses on specialist knowledge in human medicine and fits perfectly into ETH Zurich’s strategic objective of training physicians and health experts and promoting interdisciplinary cooperation between researchers and hospitals."
Professor Kerstin Noëlle Vokinger is Associate Professor at the University of Zurich and has been appointed as Associate Professor of Regulation in Law, Medicine and Technology in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Kerstin Noëlle Vokinger researches and publishes not only in the area of law but also empirically in the fields of medicine and regulatory sciences, at the intersection of law, medicine and technology. She won the Swiss Science Prize Latsis 2022, among other awards. Her dual background in law and medicine strengthens the strategic partnership between ETH Zurich and the Faculty of Law of the University of Zurich. With her specialist knowledge of legal and regulatory matters, Kerstin Noëlle Vokinger will be able to boost the success of medical software and medtech hardware developed at ETH Zurich, as well as strengthening the teaching of human medicine, among other contributions."
ETH Board awards Irene Burger the title "Professor of Practice" at D-HEST
25 September 2024 - At its meeting of 18 and 19 September 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board awarded the title of "Professor of Practice" to Irene Burger
Professor Irene Burger is Head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Cantonal Hospital Baden and Adjunct Professor at the University of Zurich. Quote ETH News: "Irene Burger is a recognised expert in radiology and nuclear medicine with a focus on oncological hybrid imaging. She combines positron emission tomography with computer tomography in order to generate a fusion image showing both the structure and function of the body. This can be used to determine and investigate diseases ranging from cancer to heart muscle injury. Irene Burger also conducts research into metabolic disorders. With her translational research and considerable teaching experience, she will enrich the Department and strengthen the transfer of new technologies to the clinical setting."

ETH Board awards Oscar Matzinger the title "Professor of Practice" at D-HEST
18 July 2024 - At its meeting of 11 and 12 July 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board awarded the title of "Professor of Practice" to Oscar Matzinger.
Dr Oscar Matzinger is Medical Director of Radio-Oncology Departments within Swiss Medical Network, President of the Vaud League against Cancer and Vice-President of the Swiss Society of Radiation Oncology. Quote ETH News: "Oscar Matzinger is a radiation oncologist with over 20 years’ experience, who leads a team of radiation oncologists, physicists and therapists. He has led the development of new treatment techniques and methods, championed the rationalisation of clinical workflows and driven forward multidisciplinary support for cancer patients in order to ensure optimal care. With his extensive experience of clinical research and teaching, as well as his research interests, Oscar Matzinger will enrich medical training and research at ETH Zurich."

ETH Board promotes Simone Schürle-Finke as Associate Professor and awards Meret Branscheidt the title "Professor of Practice" at D-HEST
23 May 2024 - At its meeting of 22 and 23 May 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board appointed twelve professors. The Board also awarded the title of "Professor" four times and the title of "Professor of Practice" three times. At D-HEST we welcome:
Professor Simone Schürle-Finke, currently Tenure Track Assistant Professor at ETH Zurich, as Associate Professor of Medical Microsystems in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Simone Schürle-Finke’s interdisciplinary research focuses on developing nano and micro systems with potential applications in diagnosing and treating diseases such as cancer. This internationally acclaimed researcher has received a large number of awards and honours. In addition, Simone Schürle-Finke has made an excellent contribution as a teacher and actively organises scientific workshops and symposia on medical robotics and biomechanics."
Dr Meret Branscheidt, Deputy Medical Director and Medical Research Director at the cereneo clinic in Hertenstein as well as Researcher and Lecturer at Zurich University Hospital, as Professor of Practice in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich. Quote ETH News: "Meret Branscheidt is a neurologist who specialises in neurorehabilitation. The aim of her research is to gain a deeper mechanistic understanding of the brain so that therapeutic methods can be improved. Meret Branscheidt has gained international recognition in the field of strokes, in particular. Her commitment to high-quality research, her extensive experience in her own research area and her successful cooperation with other researchers and industry will make a significant contribution to the Department and to ETH Zurich."

New Professor at D-HEST: Dr Patrick Rühs
08 March 2024 - At its meeting of 6 and 7 March 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board appointed nine professors. We are pleased to announce that one Professor will start at D-HEST already in May 2024:
Dr. Patrick Rühs, currently Head of Science at Planted Foods AG, has been appointed as Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Food Structure Engineering in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology. Quote ETH News: "Patrick Alberto Rühs’ research focuses on the interactions between process engineering and biotechnology, with the aim of producing new food structures. At the ETH spin-off Planted Foods AG he has developed new, patented technologies and processes for the manufacture of novel foods, which can now be found in grocery stores. Patrick Alberto Rühs has obtained a significant number of grants for Planted Foods. His appointment will result in important interactions and synergies within the Department and also with industry."

Eling de Bruin awarded the title "Professor"
08 March 2024 - At its meeting of 6 and 7 March 2024 and upon application of Joël Mesot, President of ETH Zurich, the ETH Board awarded the title "Professor" three times, among them a scientist at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology:
Dr Eling de Bruin, currently Private Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich and at Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences. Quote ETH News: Eling de Bruin's scientific work covers numerous examples of new contributions to sport and movement science, gerontology and various clinical disciplines. He is a leading international expert on falls in the elderly. Eling de Bruin has an impressive list of publications and has won many awards.
