Students in the Master in Food Science study programme may complete voluntary professional training.

Searching and applying for the internship and finding a position is entirely up to the students and independent of the Department of Health Sciences and Technology and of ETH Zurich.

Searching and applying for the internship and finding a position is entirely up to the students and independent of the Department of Health Sciences and Technology and of ETH Zurich. In order for the internship to be certified, the negotiated project assignment must be submitted to the internship supervisor.

In order for the internship to be certified, the agreed-upon project assignment must be submitted to the internship supervisor. The supervisor decides whether the internship meets the requirements for certification.

Deadlines:

  • Internship in Switzerland: the signed project assignment must be submitted to the Food Science internship supervisor for approval at least one month prior to the start of the internship.
  • Internship abroad: students going abroad must submit the project assignment at least three months prior to the start of the internship.

For the certificate to be issued, a report muss be submitted to the internship supervisor once the internship is completed.
A report is generally expected to be submitted already during the internship. This report may be expanded and used for to apply for the certificate.

The report must include a work-related section and a personal section, and may include an attachment. The work-related section describes the company’s operations and environment, as well as the project.

Sections:

  1. Title page
  2. Table of contents
  3. Introduction
  4. Project assignment or hypothesis
  5. Background information on the company and existing conditions or processes
  6. Factual description of objectives to be reached (milestones, project targets)
  7. Factual and scientific summary with future prospects in the personal section
  8. Personal experiences (Which lessons were learned? Implementation into future career? How did you develop personally?)

The report will be corrected and send back for editing only once.

The certificate will be issued if

  • the application is submitted on time;
  • the internship was approved in advance by the Food Science internship supervisor based on the project assignment and the internship location;
  • the work was carried out; a letter of reference or employment confirmation letter must be submitted as proof;
  • the final report is submitted no later than six months after the internship is completed.

The certificate will subsequently be issued and sent within six working weeks.

If the internship is done abroad, students with Swiss citizenship may apply for a grant covering partial costs of travel, visa, inoculations, accommodation to the Hochstrasser foundation. Contact:
