Regl. 2024: Structure of the Bachelor's programme

The Bachelor programme comprises natural science, engineering, social and food science subjects amounting to 180 (CP).

The first year includes the basics in mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics, as well as social sciences. The first-year examinations are taken in two blocks (February and August). They are the first hurdle in this course of study.

In the second and third years, the choice of subjects increasingly focuses on Food Science and Nutrition subjects as well as courses in the category «Science in Perspective». The bachelor´s thesis completes the three-year bachelor´s programme.

In each category the following number of credit poins have to be acquired in the 2nd and 3rd year of study:

  • Foiod Science basic subjects: 27 CP
  • Food Science subjects: 27 CP
  • Food Science laboratory training: 12 CP
  • Science in Perspective: 6 CP
  • Bachelor's thesis: 15 CP

Science in Perspective

  • The study programme Science in Perspective is offered by the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences.
  • The aim of these courses is to make the connection between expertise and action and societal and economic issues.
  • For the completion of the Bachelor’s programme at least 6 credit points have to be taken in the area of Science in Perspective.
  • Courses in educational science which are part of the Teacher-​Training (Teacher`s diploma, Didactic Certificate) can also be counted as Science in Perspective courses.

Language

Lectures are usually held in German. Information about language requirements

Bachelor Degree

The Bachelor degree qualifies students to continue with the Master program and enables mobility between universities and degree programs (see Mobility). The Bachelor diploma qualifies as an undergraduate university degree. However, for full academic and professional qualification, a Master degree is required.
